The webcam is back, at least temporarily. Although, because of my DSL Router, the image is periodically distorted.

This will continue until I update the firmware, which by all accounts is an onerous process. Something I am not likely to try for a couple of weeks.

So, you may see a distorted me for a while. Don't panic.
